This is an American Beech staff that is 71-1/2" tall and varies from 1-1/8" to 2-1/8" in diameter. The root mass occupies an area about 8" by 8" and 5-1/2" high. Beech is a heavy, tough dense wood as compared to Red Maple. Heavier wet and heavier dry. Stronger and stiffer as well. This one is really wet, it was harvested and stripped on 4/19/21 and a day later it weighs 6#6ozs. for reference. It will lose a lot of water weight as it seasons and you can expect some wild "ckecks" or splits to open up if it follows the typical behavior of beech.(ufws46)
