This is a hand turned Maple burl egg with a natural crack and a small bark inclusion. The egg is about the size of a backyard chicken egg or comparable to a jumbo store-bought. The burl is relatively dark for maple and it has a striking array of tiger stripes and swirls. The realistic looking crack is probably from the stresses of growth or drying It has been finished with a butcher block conditioner by Howard . It is readily available, food grade and it can be reapplied when needed. The real eggs around it are not included and just shown for scale.
