This is flat sawn Black Walnut server. Despite the slab being well seasoned it went wild after it was turned. It is very distorted and warped but still unique. It measures 12-3/4" in diameter, 2-1/4" tall and the depth of the dish inside is 1-1/4". The base is 5-3/4" in diameter. It has been treated with a butcher block conditioner made by Howard. It is readily available and rated food grade. The server has some gorgeous purple hues as well as brown. There are a few slight drying checks in it. Since it is from a flat sawn slab it may be prone to even more warping if it is abused by excessive moisture or heat. We recommend a quick hand wash and towel dry, and occasionally apply more butcher block conditioner when it looks dry.
