This is a yellow birch burl with tight bark attached on the live edges. Interestingly you can see the growth layers in the bark, not just in the wood. The walls are very heavy and thick because the live edges intrude deeply into the vessel. This represents a lobe off of a large burl that was used to make a large bowl also listed. Like the large bowl it has the start of spalt indicated by the lighter pattern on one side. It is 4-7/8" tall and 7" in diameter. The inside depth is 3-7/8". It has been finished with two coats of oil based polyurethane.
