Here is an odd Black Cherry root staff. It has a thickened, curved trunk at the roots, a shape more often seen in a softwood. It really depends on the humus, or lack thereof, that it grows in. It stands 71" tall and the shaft ranges in diameter from 1-1/8" up to 2". It weighs 3#9ozs. Being a cherry you can expect a lot of drying cracks that form from the tension being released radiating from the pith outward. Like most of the others the bark was stripped with a drawknife and nothing else has been done to it, hence it is a raw material. Cherry takes stain well if you are going for a darker theme.(ufws399)
