This listing is for a Maple root staff with some cool attributes. Not only does it have a complex, full root array but if you look closely there is a root that crosses another and appears to have grown into it. Is it from the same tree or a neighboring tree, I have no clue. It also has a nice hollow void where the sapling suffered animal damage at a young age and it continued to grow in spite. The dead core rotted away and left a gully. Maples are targeted in the late winter/early spring by rabbits, squirrels and the like for the sap that flows...it could also have been a buck rub or even a frost split that started the wound. It definitely had a tortured existence. It stands a half inch shy of six feet and it weighs 4#4oz. The shaft varies in diameter from 1-1/4" up to 2-1/4", and the root mass require an 8" x 8" girth box to fit. Like most of my other staffs this was harvested and the bark was stripped with a drawknife, hence it has an authentic hand-hewn look. This is a raw material for you to customize. (ufws387)
