This is another partially dead black cherry root staff. These saplings are ideal to turn into staffs because their days of life were numbered. This one is really cool because you can see the roots were alive and the rest was dead, there is a distinct line between the two. It stands over 70" tall and the shaft ranges in diameter from 1-1/4" up to 1-3/4". There is a cool rot hole on the shaft that you can see daylight through. It weighs 3#6ozs and the bark was stripped with a drawknife, hence there are subtle facets and digs from the blade. Nothing else has been done to it, it's a raw material for you to start with. Like most wood rounds that dry fast it'll develop drying splits (heart checks) that merely add to the authenticity. Cherry splits more than most species as it dries, so you can expect splits.
