This is a robust Black Cherry root staff. It is thick and heavy, weighing at about 5#15ozs currently. Like most Cherry specimens that dry fast this one has developed a lot of splits all over. It is typical and it adds to the character. It will probably develop more as it fully dries. It stands 71" tall and the shaft ranges in diameter from 1-1/2" up to 2-1/2". It has a deep small pocket between the lower roots that would be ideal for an artifact. Like most of my unfinished staffs this is a raw material that was harvested and the bark was stripped with a drawknife. That means there are tooling marks, subtle facets and streaks of the inner bark. (ufws362)
