Here is a finished Balsam Fir walking stick complete with a lanyard and rubber cap. It is extremely lightweight weighing in at 1#14oz. It stands 59" tall and it is about an inch in diameter at the tip and up to two inches above the grip. It was stripped with a drawknife, dried, sanded and sealed with a matte polyurethane. The drawknife left subtle facets and digs like a hand-hewn beam, it gives it nice character. It also has a soft braided #750 paracord lanyard that is ideal for an emergency if you are ill prepared. If needed you can unravel the braid and it'll be over 12 feet long. The lanyard is simply knotted on the backside of the hole so you can easily adjust the length. There is also a higher predrilled hole if you want to raise the lanyard. It's a nice balance aid for your favorite path.
