Here is a cool one even for me. It is a large Maple root staff with a lot of desirable elements, especially the large "fairy hole" void. This staff was definitely a tortured specimen. The scars on the shaft were wounds that healed and then were wounded again and healed again, probably a few times over. My guess is that it was a favorite "rub" for a whitetail buck for a few successive years. The "fairy hole" shows that it was originally a double or triple stem sapling that ended up being a single, The other stems apparently died off and rotted, leaving behind a cool hollow cavity. This sapling was harvested and the bark stripped cleanly without needing a drawknife, so there are few tooling marks except where the roots were truncated. I did remove some of the remaining rot in the void with a burr just to make sure the rot was isolated, which it was. The walls of the cavity are firm. It stands 71-1/2" high and the diameter of the shaft ranges from 1-1/4" up to 2". It will ship in a 72" x 8" x8" box. It weighs 5# 12ozs. If you want to customize a unique tortured staff this might be the one. (ufws355)
