This is a heavily dimensioned Red Maple root staff. It is not straight. It has gradual curves in a few directions. It stands 71-1/4" tall and the bark was stripped carefully to leave no tooling marks. This one is thick in diameter, about 1-5/8" on the small end and 2-1/2 near the roots. It has a nice curly root and it has enough girth to be a good carving base. This one is very fresh and weighs 6# 12ozs currently with the high moisture content. It'll have to dry thoroughly before you can use a film forming finish.(ufws346)
