Here is a thick birch root staff that stands 71-1/2" tall. It is relatively straight and the shaft ranges in diameter from 1-5/8" up to about 2". It was stripped of bark during our long rainy spring season without leaving any tooling marks. The roots were truncated with a drawknife so they obviously exhibit marks. This sapling did have a double step but the one stem had long since died off so there is a little hard rot on the remaining nub. This one hasn't had a chance to dry down yet so it currently weighs 5#4ozs. It'll have to dry fully before you can apply a film forming finish.(ufws345)
