This is a Balsam staff with a knock-down joint in the middle, hence it'll ship for a lot cheaper in a 40" long box. It stands 6' tall and weighs 3 pounds. The wavy shaft varies in diameter from 1-1/4" to 2". It was harvested and the bark was stripped with a drawknife hence it has nice subtle facets from the knife. This one has a nice array of roots with no rot. Balsam Fir trees are basically the weeds of our Adirondack forests, they overpopulate and literally kill each other competing for sunlight and water. They are prolific. As I attempt to thin out an area to give the hardwoods a chance there are typically many standing dead ones that can't fall because they grow so tight. This one was still alive.
