Here is a birch specimen with a very sparse root mass that resembles a curved-back twisted cross. The large curve might make it suitable to hang a lantern. It stands 71" tall and it is relatively straight except for the top 18". The shaft on this one varies from 1-1/4" in diameter up to 2". Besides the contorted cross there is a healed scar right under the cross roots as well as a lump where more root nodes would project from. It weighs 3#8ozs and will ship in a 72" x 8" x 8" box. This was harvested and the bark was stripped with a drawknife, hence there are tooling marks and subtle flat facets on the piece. This is a raw material ready for imagination.(ufws331)
