This is a Yellow Birch root staff. Yellow Birch is a good indicator of a healthy stand, but unfortunately they typically are out-competed by Balsam Fir in this area. This one is all kinds of crooked. It is a little more 2 dimensional than many and it has some crazy roots. There is even a 1/4" round hole between two roots where a neighbor's root went through. This one had dry bark so it had to be stripped with a drawknife so it has all of the hand-hewn look to add to the chard. It stands 71" tall and the shaft is between 1-1/8" in diameter up to 1-1/2". It weighs 2#10ozs. This is a raw material...use it as is or finish it to whatever level you want. (ufws316)
