Here is a nice balsam fir root staff with a relatively flat set of roots on it from rocky soil conditions. The bark stripped pretty clean on this one but there are a few drawnkife facets just below the roots. The shaft has a pile of little pin knots and it ranges in diameter from 1" to 1-3/4". It stands 71" tall and it weighs two pounds. It does have some airborne dirt on it because once the bark is stripped they remain moist and somewhat stick for a bit, hence the dust clings to it. After light sanding it'll be a very white wood that accepts stain well. This is a raw material for your imagination. (ufws311)
