This is a Balsam Fir that was rooted in deep moss and humus, hence the roots keep looking for support. It is a lighter dimensioned staff, standing a shy 6' tall with a shaft that varies in diameter from 7/8" up to about 1-7/8". The bark stripped clean so there are no tooling marks but it is dirty just from atmospheric dust sticking to the tacky wetness from being split. It is well dry now, as evident from the drying splits that run all along the shaft. There are abundant pin knots on this one as well and it weighs in a 2#3ozs. It is a raw material ready to be finished.(ufws302)
