Here is a birch specimen that stands an inch shy of six feet. The bark has been removed with a pruning knife which left slight tooling marks. The root mass is curved back and has a relatively flat top, hence it might be suitable to display a flat artifact. The shaft varies in diameter from 1-1/4 to 1-3/4, and it had a few small hair roots that were removed below the roots. The shaft also has a dead scar on it probably from a small mammal gnawing on it when food was scarce. This is a raw material that currently weighs 3#4ozs. (ufws280)
