Set of two (2) large wizard staffs

$145.00

This is a set of two large Tamarack root staffs. One is heavier and thicker than the other, but they both stand a half inch shy of 6' tall. Tamarack is a beautiful deciduous evergreen tree that was used to make snowshoes long ago. The roots are long, fibrous and tenacious, perfect for snowshoes. These two Tamaracks were about six feet apart, but sadly they were in our utility right-of-way, so they were doomed to be killed by a brush saw or herbicide. Yes, even in the adirondack park electric companies are still allowed to use herbicides, sad but true. Turning them into staffs made them immortal in a way. The lighter staff varies in diameter from 3/4" up to 1-1/2" and weighs 1#10ozs. The bark was peeled off to initiate drying and it developed large heart splits, which is a split that starts at the pith and runs to the outside as tension is released. It is common as a "round" dries and adds cool character. The other staff weighs 2#7ozs and the diameter varies from 1" to 2", and for some reason it has yet to develop any drying splits, but it might in the future. These have been rough-sanded and they still have branch nubs. They also peeled like a banana from our wet spring season, hence there are few tooling marks. They will be shipped in a single 72"x8"x8" box to save shipping. Btw I will gladly combine any two staffs into a single box to save on shipping, not just these (ufws273)
