This is a gorgeous Black Cherry burl that I turned on a lathe. It has four holes all the way through from the convoluted shape of the original burl. The burl is rock hard and riddled with small wood borer holes and tracks. With the included nesting pots it weighs 6#12 ozs and it stands 7-3/4" tall. The major diameter is 9-1/2", the top is 7-1/4" and the bottom is 6-5/8". The inside of the mouth is just over 6" in diameter, and the "bowl" is 6" deep. As evidenced by the annular rings this burl grew around the trunk. Included with this planter is a typical 6" clay pot with a drainage hole in the bottom as well as a plastic pot (with no drainage hole) that holds the clay pot nicely. When nested together there is about a 3/4" space between the bottoms of the pots that would allow water to drain out of the clay pot but not into the burl. There are tooling marks inside the burl pot because it was too dangerous to sand them entirely out. The last picture was taken with a root-bound black spruce tree just to show potential, tree not included.
