This is a thick, robust poplar staff. It stands 69" tall when assembled and the chunky girth is 1-7/8" at the bottom and 2-3/4" in diameter at the top. This sapling was on the way out so it has cool discolored areas on the shaft that will really show with an oil based clear sealer. Being poplar it has peculiar nubs where branches started to form and die off early. This is a raw material peeled with a pruning knife so there are few tooling marks except where a drawknife was used to truncate the roots. It is a thick staff for a large grip, it is raw and unsanded. I recently added an overlapping knock-down joint so it can ship in a 40" box. Since it was a really thick staff I used some 1/4" stainless steel post connectors because my normal connectors were too short.
