Finished Burl for a table; slab only no legs

$525.00

This is a completely finished, book-matched yellow birch burl slab ready to be mounted. This is only a slab (no legs) that measures approximately 19" x 29" x 2-1/4" thick and weighs just shy of 30#. It would be an ideal size for an end table or nightstand. It is made from two combined slices from a burl that was cut off of a log. They were opened up, or book-matched, and joined with hardwood dowels and glue. It has a natural live edge around all of the perimeter short of an 8" swath. It had voids, bark inclusions and radial splits all of which have been filled with clear epoxy. The swirls and rays in the burl are exceptional, and there is a little bit of spalt as well where decay was starting. The entire top surface and sides were poured with clear epoxy, and the unseen bottom surface was just left rough and sealed with polyurethane to keep moisture out. Only the top surface is to be seen. The top surface has a satin finish rather than a high gloss epoxy. Oftentimes reflections distract from the gorgeous grain, whereas this satin finish does not. The satin was created by scuffing and buffing with carnuba wax. If the need ever arises it can be refreshed with any carnuba wax that doesn't contain silicone. Add your own base, whether it be a stump, iron legs, a small wooden keg etc. Note: this is not for food contact nor outdoor uses
