Here is a meaty softwood carving blank. It is a Balsam Fir with a natural shape that's hard to find in nature. It stands 36" tall and the rise on the grip rises another inch or so up. The shaft varies in diameter from 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" and the grip starts at 1-3/4" and the flatter area is 2-1/2" wide. It was cut and peeled yesterday and today (3/24/22) it weighs 2#10oz. It will lose a lot of weight pretty fast being a softwood. Balsam Fir is a little stringy and light but as long as you leave enough strength it should be ideal to hand carve with tools or a rotary burr.(cb3) update: very dry
