Here is a Black Cherry staff that was dug and peeled in the last week of August '21. This staff stands 70-1/4" tall and the shaft varies from 1-1/4" to 2" in diameter. It oddly has no roots on one side and it also has about a 12" long girdled scar on the shaft that you don't often see on a cherry.
Currently it weighs 4#4ozs(on 10/10/21) and given that it was only harvested a week prior means it is going to lose a lot more moisture weight. This is a raw material that was stripped with a drawknife. It is going to take some time to sand and clean the root mass, and please don't seal it until it dries out.(ufws171)
