Here is a large, girdled Red Maple staff with a lighter but numerous root mass. It stands about 71-1/2" tall and alone weighs 4# 10 ozs. It ranges in diameter from 1-1/8" to 2-1/2", and the root mass takes up a volume of 7" x 8" x 5" high. The tortured looking main girdled area is about 10" long and there is a 4" one below it. There is a "dog leg" below the main girdled portion and a protruding branch that I crudely pointed when I stripped the bark with a drawknife. It is freshly harvested and stripped on 5/5/21 and weighed a week later. It'll still lose a lot of moisture weight. Use it as is or customize it. Just be sure it is fully dried if you seal it with a film forming finish.(ufws57)
