Can I help?
No,
that is why you hired someone.
I have been approached by clients who say
“consider me part of the crew” and they expect to be compensated. This doesn’t
work. I don’t know their ability or knowledge level, and to try to fit them
into a proven, work environment is impossible.
It also doesn’t work well if you watch.
Construction is not a spectator sport. If you don’t trust us, don’t hire us. I
recall a sign in a marina that read something like this: Hourly service rate
$30/hour. If you watch $45/hour. If you help $60/hour. That says it all.
You also have to be respectful of the danger
and nuisance that it creates. Don’t allow your kids to run around the jobsite
unsupervised. Don’t expect to be able to “camp out” on the jobsite during
construction, even if you “pack everything up” before we get there. When it
costs me unexpected time it costs me unexpected money.
There are some instances that we do allow
some help to reduce the labor rate. If for instance, you want to pre-stain the
siding just let us know before the contract. We will set you up in a safe
location, show you what we expect and let you go at it.
